A cuppa with our Digital Account Manager Kristian...
In one of our first, “A cuppa with…” interviews, we sit down with our Account Manager Kristian. A firm favourite amongst our clients since he joined in 2019 and a regular winner at our annual Pixel Awards bash, Kristian gives us an insight into his life both inside and outside work.

This interview took place over a team’s call on the 21st October 2021.

Who or what inspired you to pursue the career you have today?

"It was kind of a transition/journey thing. I was always quite creative, and I was going to go study Graphics at Uni, and I even got accepted to go and do it. But I wanted to work with people, so I ended up going to do a degree that was creative and worked with people, so I did Events Management. I ended up working in Events and then I went on from there. I went to a Healthcare company and I was part of the marketing team there, which gave me exposure across marketing and digital, and then that pushed me on to move to Pixelbuilders in a more digital role."

What’s your favourite kind of music?

“I don’t know. Recently I’ve been asking Jamie (our new designer) for a playlist every morning to set me off. Since he’s a DJ. But really I don’t know… it depends what mood I’m in. Sometimes you need a bit of chill, if you need a bit of a boost maybe something dancey, a bit of rap – you know how it is. Just not heavy metal – shouty, shouty screamy screamy, sweary, sweary. Anything apart from that.”

Do you have a secret talent that no one knows about?

“Like a Party trick? I can make an origami swan – that’s the best I can do.”

What’s the coolest thing you’re working on right now?

"The Space Homes rebuild. I like my housing and new home clients; like I enjoy the Chartford Homes projects and Leeds Federated. I think in a previous life I was an Estate Agent."

What would you say was the best meal you’ve ever had?

“There’s several I’ve had that we’re amazing. One of them was a lamb tagine I had in Marrakesh that was just so good I ate so much. I was stuffed but I didn’t want to leave any of it but there was physically no room left inside me. But that was really good! And then there’s also an Ottolenghi recipe that I made myself. It was a Vegan traybake ragù that’s just insane. There used to be a restaurant in town called ‘Rare’ and I had an insane steak in there, but it’s shut down now. But that was good.”

Is there something that has made you smile recently?

“Do you know what, today. The weather. It’s the first time I’ve seen blue sky and sunshine in quite some time. I’m in quite a chirpy mood.”

What’s something you want to do in the next year that you’ve never done before?

“Oh my god there’s so many things that I want to do. So, the things that are currently on my radar are, obviously get a dog – that’s up there. Randomly as well, I’d really like to, I don’t think I’d do it in the next year, but I really want to climb Machu Picchu.”

What’s the best advice you can give to someone who just started their own career?

"I would say just to find out as much as you can about all the different departments and how everything comes together. I think it’s good just to have knowledge of how the different departments work no matter what company it is."

If you could get a new skill that would help with your job, in 10 minutes, what would it be and why?

"How to code and then I wouldn’t need the Devs; I could do it all myself. Next time I see the padding isn’t quite right I’ll be like “oh I can change that myself no problem”… but that would take a lot longer than 10 minutes."
