Woodlands DIY is a leading DIY, timber and building materials superstore. Based in Leeds, they approached us here at Pixelbuilders to help them design and build a brand new, full ecommerce solution that would deliver a great user experience and ultimately increase their online revenue.
The strategy for Woodlands DIY was focussed on ensuring that the new website would deliver improved conversion rates and better usability. To do this we devised a design that clearly places key calls to action above the fold across all screen sizes and developed clear and effective mega menus to reduce the number of clicks required for users to reach key conversion pages.
The design for Woodlands DIY uses a simple yet effective bright blue and monochromatic colour scheme which is easily recognisable without distracting from the product catalogue. It also remains consistent with the brand. Monochromatic fonts and borders are also used to help establish the structure of the website and prioritise the key product content.
As white provides a clean background colour, key text, calls to action and content can stand out and a grid texture conveys preciseness and expertise which subconsciously reflects Woodland DIY’s products and services.
The sans serif font is easy to read, clear and bold yet sanitary and this also helps to convey ease of use and allows users to successfully navigate and negotiate the content on the website.
A large sliding banner gives key screen space to main products and current offers while iconography improves the usability and structure of the website.
The Woodlands DIY website is supported with the ability for their in-house team to upload and amend products through a bespoke CSV uploader which integrates with the Kentico API. This allows for faster, more effective product management.
Once on the site, product filtering allows users to easily navigate the products available. To improve this even further, we developed dynamic product filters which automatically apply the maximum size and price to the filters, based on the products in the category. Finally, a product led site search function allows users to drill straight down into key conversion pages.
