Prince of Wales Hospice
Based in West Yorkshire, The Prince of Wales Hospice provides free 24/7 palliative care and support for patients with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Offering a range of both inpatient and outpatient services; in addition to a busy calendar of charity events, the team at The Prince of Wales Hospice work hard to provide care to the people who need it the most.
Pixelbuilders were approached by the Prince of Wales Hospice to develop a single online resource to accommodate all the information related to their hospice as well as communicate their work and services. The site would also be used to help drive online donations and support through events and fundraising opportunities.
With a magnitude of purposes for the site, it was important for us to consider the structure and navigation to ensure that the user journey was not compromised. Making use of a mega menu structure would allow us to clearly display the four main key areas of the site: Our Care, Support Us, Events and About. Each section would then have their own related subpages to ensure the information provided remained relevant to what the user searched for.
In order to future enhance navigation on inner content pages we would add an on-page sub navigation item which would allow users to easily navigate between pages relevant to the key area they were in.
In addition to navigation, we also needed to consider the digital donation touch points on the site; provided much valued donations and support for the hospice. As well as a prominent CTA, the donation page would be built with an interactive hover state which would show users what there donation could provide for the hospice and how much their support was valued.
The new website for the Prince of Wales Hospice was designed with the aim of ensuring the site could accommodate continued growth of both the site and its associated content, while still supporting fundraising efforts and increasing brand awareness.
The site features a primary and secondary navigation to maximise functionality in the header of the page and give prominence to the “donate” button. The secondary navigation is action based with 4 key calls to action clearly directing users towards valuable interactions on the site while the primary navigation is mainly content led; with a mega menu feature in place to allow the hospice to add new menu items as and when they are required.
The website was developed using Kentico v9, an industry leading content management platform that allows the hospice to easily create, update and manage new and existing content on site. This solution allows the flexibility the hospice needs to ensure this website can remain in use for the foreseeable future, without the need to redesign or redevelop core functionality.
The website is equipped with key ecommerce and donation functionality all integrated with Sage Pay to provide an easy and secure method for completing financial transactions.
Since launch the new website for the Prince Of Wales Hospice has delivered the increased functionality the team needed to allow enhanced online fundraising. The navigation and usability has significantly improved and the brand awareness has been improved thanks to the website's integration with their multiple digital marketing channels.
