Junior Front End Web Developer

What's the role?


We are looking for a front-end focussed Web Developer, ideally with 1+ years' experience, to build exciting new things for a range of client websites and web-based applications. The role will involve working within a growing front end development team, and alongside the full-stack/back-end focussed wider development team, with the opportunity to grow and drive new ways of working into the business. The role will be focussed on developing the front end for both new and existing websites, and delivering through to the back-end development team to build into an associated CMS project.

The ideal candidate will hold the following skills...

  • Understanding of semantic HTML, accessibility, structuring HTML based on provided designs
  • Good foundational knowledge of CSS: the box model, media queries,  responsive design, flexbox
  • Good foundational knowledge of JavaScript: DOM manipulation, data fetching, AJAX, async/await, promises, using 3rd party libraries + npm packages
  • Using designs tools such as Figma, Photoshop, Sketch effectively to plan written HTML/CSS and extract usable assets
  • Experience with source control software such as GIT
 

Additional skills:

On top of the key requirements, it would be favourable (but not required) for candidates to show skills within the following areas:

  • Experience with CSS preprocessors e.g. SASS, LESS
  • Experience with JS and CSS animations: GSAP / AnimeJS / Motion; @keyframes, transitions
  • Experience with build tooling e.g. Gulp, Webpack, Vite etc. for bundling, minifying, code splitting, module imports
  • Experience with Typescript
  • Efficient loading of static assets: code splitting, lazy loading,  picture tags,  modern image formats
  • Awareness of current front-end technologies and an interest in modern frameworks (both CSS & JS), demonstrating their strengths/weaknesses within different use cases
