It’s that time of year again and although snow isn’t quite falling, the Christmas decorations are up, the presents are wrapped and that quiet panic that so often accompanies the festive period is well and truly in full swing.
So, as the days continue to count down to Christmas and the New Year we thought we’d take a break from the fairy lights and glitter to take an affectionate look back over 2017, which turned out to be a year of firsts for the Pixel team.
It all started at the beginning of the year when we buckled down and set to work on creating our brand new Pixel website
, which for the first time saw our team featured in a snazzy new video which forms the background of our new homepage.
As well as getting our own website live, we also helped several new and existing clients go live with their websites as well. Of course this is nothing new in itself, but what was a arguably a first for Pixelbuilders was seeing our Senior Developer Chris Dent putting not one, not even two but at last count a total of five new websites live in just one year!
This comes after a bit of a dry spell for Chris and it has to be his personal best for ‘number of completed sites in a single year’. Let’s see if he can out do himself in 2018 and continue the great work.
It’s not all about Chris though, in another first for Pixelbuilders our developer Andy Boot managed to put three new websites live at the same time in a challenging yet exciting project for our client Cubed Resourcing.
With so many successful projects being completed, we are delighted to also share the news that in May 2017 we achieved our best financial year to date! This was a huge achievement for the team and a great reward for everyone’s consistent hard work over not only 2017 but the previous year as well.
Some key projects that helped us achieve this success include The Plastic People website build (one of Chris’ five), Direct Blinds, Masthaven, Halo Financial, Woodlands DIY, Fastec, White Optics, the super stylish Strata Magazine, Dynamic Networks, Harrogate Town Association Football Club, CCTV Direct…the list just goes on.
After this success it was important we continued the momentum throughout the rest of the year and with a growing client list and an even bigger workload we decided to introduce a brand new developer to the team, Sam Kuhnbaum.
Sam came on board in the summer of 2017 as our developer Josh Holt headed off on a round the world trip that’s so far seen him working on a fruit farm! Thankfully fruit farming hasn’t tempted him into a full time agricultural career and he’ll be re-joining us here at Pixel Towers in the New Year.
With Sam’s arrival and Josh’s return our development team will be the biggest it’s ever been, at seven developers strong including our Technical Director Martin Hoyle and our Development Team Lead Matt Lewis. It was this rapid rate of growth that also motivated our move to a brand new office
in 2017 as well.
We didn’t move far, just down a floor and along the corridor into a space that’s almost twice the size of our previous digs. It has a bigger kitchen, 2 meeting rooms, a breakout area and space for 15 desks as well as our most prized possession, the Pixel pool table. This was the first time we really went to town putting our mark on our office, with branded blue paint, stylish wallpaper and carefully co-ordinated furniture that saw our Creative Director Andy Ackroyd really get to show off his signature style, complete with his ‘visionary’ pot of yellow school pencils.
After a week of settling into our new space the hard work picked up the pace again and towards the end of 2017 we celebrated a few more successes. Our website for fellow Leeds business Dynamic Networks Group was featured in Kentico’s Top 10 Sites
of the Month, just weeks after going live and our long standing client Strata was also shortlisted for a Northern Marketing Award
Speaking of Kentico though, our Digital Project Manager Lucy Harrison demonstrated her prowess with the platform after successfully passing her Kentico Certified Marketer Exam allowing her to better support our clients running Kentico’s Enterprise Marketing Solution (EMS for short) and this also gave a big boost to our Kentico Gold Partner Status, by showcasing even more of our team’s expertise.
Kentico aren’t our only industry partners either, as of November 2017 we also officially gained Google Partner status after two years of consistent and persistent work from our Digital Marketing Manager Rachael Hand.
And last but by no means least, our team also experienced one or two exciting developments outside the office as well, as we celebrated three Pixel weddings and welcomed a brand new Pixel baby into the world too.
All in all, 2017 proved to be something of a landmark year for Pixelbuilders with our best financial year to date, our biggest team ever and a brand new website and office to go with it. We think 2018 could be even more exciting, so bring on the New Year.
In the meantime, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and happy holidays.
We’re breaking up for the festive period at 1pm on Thursday the 21st
December and we won’t return until Tuesday 2nd
January at 9am for business as usual. We look forward to seeing you then.
