Behind the Scenes - April

Pixel Playlist

Like many offices up and down the country, at Pixelbuilders we have our official office playlist which is updated every couple of months with 10 carefully chosen songs from each person. Loved by some and feared by many, this collaboration is a sneak preview into the mind and souls of each team member.
Numerous studies have shown that music within the workplace can have a lot of advantageous benefits, it can help concentration, ease stress and can help you work faster and more effectively. Some would suggest it is not the music itself but the uplifted mood your favourite music creates that aids productivity. Obviously, the type of music plays a huge role in this concept. Playing jazz and acoustic classics will help create a relaxing and chilled atmosphere whilst heavy metal, rock and lively dance tunes will almost definitely help with the post lunch energy slump.

Pixel Playlist

With this in mind, we nominated Josh Holt as our resident Playlist Manager because when creating such a list it is important that there is someone responsible to veto those song choices that make everyone’s toes curl.  Whether it’s a sickly boy band number, a cheesy dance tune or a head banging mass of noise and explicit lyrics (not mentioning any names …… Sam K) Josh is the playlist bouncer who has the final word.

The age gap (ranging from 22-40) within the office is usually barely noticeable but when it comes to office music, it’s a game changer. Only in this situation can you go from Status Quo to The Prodigy with The Smiths, Eminem and Metallica thrown in for good measure. Not to mention the songs chosen by our youngest team member Olly – who most of us have never even heard of and frankly I might be showing my age now but what kind of name is “Potato Salad” for a song….. really!!

Only time will tell if this playlist is a success and due to the strict rule of “no skipping” the only way we can effectively measure this is by seeing how many people end up with their ear phones on whilst its playing - Cue track 1.

Cakeaway

April saw our HR company HR180 pull out all the stops to offer a wonderful “Cakeaway” to raise money for a charity very close to our hearts, Martin House Children’s Hospice. We have had a great working relationship with Martin House after we designed and developed their website back in 2014.

The aim of Martin House is to provide family led care for children with life shortening conditions. It is a place where children, young people and their families can come to stay from time to time along their journey and find support, rest and practical help. Their vision is that every child and young person has access to palliative care when and where they need it. Last year they provided 3,197 nights of care for young children and their families, 173 families received bereavement support and 2750 hours of care were provided in the community.

We were more than happy to donate to this wonderful cause for which we received 2 boxes (hand delivered to the office) of wonderful homemade baked goodies including their Legendary Lemon Cake, Chunky Carrot Cake and Grandma Billington’s Yorkshire Parkin.

The target for this event was £400 and last we saw they had already nearly trebled this. Well done HR180!!!
